Why Oh Wi-fi?

Why Oh Wi-fi?

Getting fleeced

What would you be willing to pay £25 for?

A pair of shoes? That'd be a bargain for many of us.

How about a pie and chips? Well that'd be a bit expensive.

And, a bottle of bubbly? If the occasion demanded.

How about 25 quid to send an email? OK, a few emails? No? Well I did.

I stayed at a hotel in London a few months ago, a hotel that shall remain nameless because I don't feel like plugging the larcenous establishment, and yes, they charged me £25 for a Wi-fi connection so that I could send out a few emails before going to bed. I asked Reception if there was a computer I could borrow as I only needed it for 5 minutes but I was met with a blank stare and a bit of rhetoric about corporate policy or some such nonsense.

Needless to say, I will not be staying there in the future and my new mission in life is to only stay in hotels that offer free Wi-fi. We found one last night for the first ever Graffiti Artists' 'Meet Me in the Powder Room' shin-dig in London. They will, for sure be getting my business next time.

Free wifi is a must for me. Although, I stayed at a place recently that used to be free. It's a small place and you call down to the front desk for that day's code. This time, however, a $12 showed up on my bill for it. They said they changed their policy but didn't mention that. I will not be staying with them again.Report Abuse

Many hotels now offer free Wifi so worth checking next time. It's one of the 2 things I check before booking - the other is if they have a nice bath tub and not just shower!Report Abuse
