So, Twitter has become a major source of my daily news intake. I have
recently followed the devastation in Haiti, the bombings in Afghanistan and,
ahem, the purported breakup of Brangelina.
On Sunday, before I had had my
morning java, I saw a Tweet about
Johnny Depp. Whenever you see a tweet with a celeb's name, these days, you can
pretty much guarantee that said celeb was found dead in the shower of what
their family will immediately claim was ‘natural causes.' Well having always had a strong desire to jump Johnny's
bones, my heart sank. I gasped. Say it isn't so. But it was. Twitter tweeted that my soul mate was dead.
But, he wasn't. He isn't. HE'S ALIVE!
So my gripe is, what is up with the Tweeting of celebrity death hoaxes?
Don't these people realize that Twitter is now my news source? Don't they
realize that I turn to it regularly to get instantaneous, up-to-the-minute,
second even, info on what is going on in the world? Sure, I could wait till the
next day and read the New York Times but by then everyone will have known
everything before me. I cannot allow that. I think I may start an online
petition to have Twitter ban people who do this but, in the meantime, if you
Tweet, please, no celebrity death hoaxes. Especially about someone as
scrumptious as Johnny Depp.
