I feel like the question of gays in the military is this never ending thing in the US. It dates back to 1993 when President Clinton, someone who was supposed to be progressive, decided he either didn't want to stand up for what he believed or he really had a discriminatory view on gay people and went with the ‘don't ask, don't tell policy.' In other words, just don't admit that you're a ‘homo or faggot' and we'll let you put your life on the line for us, as well as give you the cushy job of killing other human beings.
Finally, President Obama is starting to stand up for himself and do the things that he believes in and it would appear he is going to reverse that silly decision.
I mean, come on! If you are in a foxhole in some Middle Eastern desert, do you really give two hoots as to whether the person next to you, in their private lives back in the civilian world is gay? I also heard this morning that the average age of the 5,000 people on an aircraft carrier is 19 and ½ years. That generation certainly doesn't care about the ‘gay' issue any longer. You need only watch MTV or any of the teen network shows to see that.
So please, President Obama, and Congress or whoever else has to get involved in this, do the right thing and make it OK for our brave young men and women to not have to hide their true identity during their service to our country.
